Season Recap and Break Preview

The Lady Trojans are a fourth of the way through their 2025-26 season and have battled through a very up-and-down season so far. At 2-3 overall and 7th in the MVL, they are still looking to find that gear to take them into the second half of the season. After a 38-22 win in their season opener over Piqua, they went on a cold streak and dropped three straight: first, one to Tippecanoe at home, 44-8, then a week later at Greenville in a close one, 31-27, then finally at home versus Butler in another close one, 38-31. They finally got into the win column once again on Wednesday, December 17th, with a dominant win at Xenia, 57-20. They hope to continue this success into Christmas break.

“Our players are starting to step up in big moments,” said coach Bunck. “They are starting to believe in each other and work as a team.”

The Trojans faced some hardship this offseason losing several players, but they worked hard and put trust in one another. The hard work seems to be paying off this year, as they have been meeting expectations as of late. They have played all but one game close and have two blowout wins.

“The girls are continuing to push each other and get better every day,” said Coach Bunck.

After a tough loss to Tippecanoe, the Trojans pushed themselves hard and played two very close, to the buzzer, games against Greenville and a tough opponent, Butler. They then finished the pre-break stretch with a nice blowout win at Xenia.

“So far, our strong suit has been full-court pressure and working as a team,” said Coach Bunck.

The Trojans' full-court pressure has been working as sophomore Persephone Williams is averaging 1.8 steals per game, and junior and freshman Jayda Dillow and Alyvia Ayers are both averaging 1.3 steals per game. They have also been working as a team, as junior Jayda Dillow is averaging eight assists per game. Other than that, they have been focusing more on winning than on ballooning individual statistics.

“Over break, we have five games, so the girls will be working hard to hopefully pick up some wins in games that we should be considered the better team,” said Coach Bunck

The Lady Trojans will be busy while we all chill out over our two-week break with five games. They start at home vs. Stebbins on Saturday. This is a big conference game as Stebbins is 5-1 and 3rd in the MVL. If they can get a win this weekend, it would be a big step towards momentum in the league. Then they play a non-conference game at Miamsburg two days later on the 22nd. Miamisburg is 1-6 (0-4 conference) and last in Greater Western Ohio. This should be one of the easier ones over break, as their only win is over Preble Shawnee, who is also last in their conference. Then on the 27th, they play West Carrollton at home. West Carrollton is 3-6 (2-5 conference) 8th in the MVL. This would also be a big conference game to catapult them into the new year. Finally, they finish the break with two big games against Sidney on December 30th and Fairborn on January 2nd. Sidney is 3-4 (3-2 conference) 6th in MVL and Fairborn is 2-5 (2-4 conference) 10th in MVL. The Trojans match up nicely against these two teams and look to have a nice end to the break and a good start to the new year.

The Lady Trojans start the break at home on Saturday, December 20, at 11:45 am in the TAC gym against Stebbins (5-1).
