Few coaches ever reach 1,000 career victories. Even fewer build a legacy that spans more than five decades, two varsity programs and generations of student-athletes.

Troy High School is proud to celebrate Coach Mark Goldner, who recently surpassed an extraordinary milestone: 1,000 career victories as a tennis coach at Troy High School.

Goldner began his teaching career in the fall of 1970 and entered the coaching profession during the spring of 1971. What began more than half a century ago developed into one of the most remarkable coaching careers in the history of Troy Athletics.

For 56 years, Goldner has served as the varsity boys tennis head coach. He later expanded his impact by taking leadership of the varsity girls tennis program, which he has coached for 19 years. Altogether, Goldner has led Troy’s varsity tennis programs for an incredible 75 seasons.

The numbers alone tell an amazing story, but Goldner’s influence extends far beyond victories and seasons coached. Throughout his career, he has helped generations of young people develop their skills, compete with confidence and understand the importance of discipline, preparation and sportsmanship.

Surpassing 1,000 victories is a testament to Goldner’s knowledge of the game, his consistency and his lifelong commitment to Troy’s student-athletes. Each victory represents countless hours spent teaching, encouraging and preparing players to succeed. It also represents the relationships and memories created across generations of Troy tennis.

Reaching this milestone requires more than longevity. It requires the ability to adapt, connect with new generations of athletes and remain passionate about helping students improve. For more than five decades, Goldner has continued to bring that commitment to the tennis courts each season.

Coach Goldner’s career is woven into the history of Troy High School and the Troy community. Former players have become parents, lifelong players, and community leaders, carrying with them the lessons they learned as members of his programs.
