Troy Boys and Girls Swimming Compete at District Meet at Miami University

The Troy High School boys and girls swimming teams competed Saturday at the OHSAA District Meet hosted at Miami University, delivering multiple season-best performances, personal records, and a school record performance.

The boys highlighted the meet with a strong showing in the 200 freestyle relay. Devin Smith, Dylan Arnold, Chase Martin, and Corbin Powell posted a time of 1:33.42. Senior Devin Smith led off the relay with a personal-best split of 22.92. The relay performance is believed to be the program’s fastest since the school record of 1:32.60 was set at the 2011 District Meet.

The girls opened the meet with a solid performance in the 200 medley relay. Cassidy Gifford, Mackenzie Gifford, Claire Martin, and Aubrey Bass placed 12th with a time of 1:52.75, finishing just half a second off the school record.

Individually, Claire Martin placed 24th in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:20.88. Aubrey Bass finished 28th in the 50 freestyle with a personal record of 25.96 and later placed 23rd in the 500 freestyle with a PR of 5:29.07.

Cassidy Gifford delivered a standout performance in the 100 butterfly, placing 13th and breaking her own school record with a national qualifying time of 58.82. She also placed 15th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.19. Mackenzie Gifford placed 16th in the 100 breaststroke with a personal-best time of 1:10.35.

In relay events, the girls 200 freestyle relay team of Cassidy Gifford, Ruby Zimmerman, Adelynn Chesko, and Claire Martin placed 13th with a time of 1:46.32. The girls 400 freestyle relay team of Adelynn Chesko, Ruby Zimmerman, Alex Battle, and Aubrey Bass finished 19th in 4:01.06, with Chesko leading off with a personal-best split of 59.55.

Overall, Troy swimmers posted multiple personal and season-best times, with several athletes finishing near state qualification standards. Simone will compete at the OHSAA State Diving Meet on Wednesday.
